After Dallas and our short trip to Los Angeles, San Francisco was the next big city on our trip. And the trip there was already an adventure. First we had to take a local bus to Daly City to the train station. There we changed to a subway to get to S.F.. Buying the tickets was so complicated that one probably has no chance without prior knowledge. Fortunately, one employee helped us there. First you had to insert the credit card, then choose that you want to buy 5 tickets. Next you had to look in a table how expensive the trip to the desired station is (each station has a different price), then decide whether you only buy a ride or want to go back and forth. If you found the correct price, you had to enter this on the terminal. But not with numbers, but with buttons (+ 1 dollar, - 1 dollar, + 10 cent, - 10 cent, + 5 cent or - 5 cent). If all was correct you could finally click on OK and the tickets were printed. Why this is not made easier in 2018 was incomprehensible to us. Especially since we needed 6 tickets and had to do it twice.
Well, thanks to the help, we made it and grabbed the next train to Powell Street. From there the journey continued with the famous "Cable Cars" to Fishermen's Wharf on the coast. The ride was really great as we had front seats with a good view. During the journey, other passengers jumped on (and off).
Arrived at the wharf we visited various shops and also some old ships, which were there moored and opened for the public. Another highlight was of course the view over the bay to the Golden Gate Bridge (unfortunately a little bit in the mist) and to Alcatraz, the famous prison island. We continued to stroll along the coast until we came to Powell Street. We followed this once through S.F. Downtown until we arrived at "our" subway station again. After a burger we made our way back, where we even had great luck with the connections and nowhere had to wait.
Tired and a bit freezing (it was really cold in S.F.) we came to our RV and went to bed soon. The city was great, but unfortunately very expensive.
