Today we wanted to visit Dallas. Since we couldn't (and didn't want to) drive there with the RV, we parked at a "Park & Ride" in the suburbs and took the train to downtown Dallas. The train is not a subway, so we could see the city already while driving into it. And after we got off, the kids saw the first real scyscrapers of their life. They were trully impressed. They weren't as many as we'd expected, and not as high ones as we thought, but still very impressive.
First we looked for a place to eat. We wanted to try something new and not depend on the fast-food chains we already knew. We ended in a "Wing Bucket" where we got wings and tender pieces. Unfortunately they were a bit hot and spicy for the kids, but still very tasty. After that we continued our exploration of Dallas.
That's where we discovered the Wild-West-Shops where you could get everything from hats to cloaks, boots, buckles/belts and other souvenirs, all in texas style. Unfortunately there were no horses, so we had to continue by foot.
That how we reached the assasination spot of JFK. The kids didn't really understand the significance of this place, but for us it was an extremely impressive, although bizarre spot. Impressive, because we knew the spot from movies and documentaries and to suddenly be there was special. The plaza, the window from which Oswald allegadly shot, the hill where the eyewitness movie was made and of course the two great white X's on the street, where the bullets hit the young president.
But it was also bizarre, because some of the tourists forgot about good manners. They ran onto the street and posed laughing next to the X for a picture. That was really strange for us and we felt kinda sad. But still, the place has a huge historical significance, so it was great for us to see it.
Since the legs started to get tired we went on our way back. The kids wanted to go to the playground once more and we ended the day with a movie (Minions) and some fastfood (corndogs and hot-pockets). At least we had some carrotts and tomatoes with it .)
