Weber's USA Trip 2018

As mentioned before, we set off today in the "Arches National Park". This is one of the most famous national parks in the US and accordingly well visited. Although not a high season, we expected a larger crowd and therefore started at 08:00h. Since the information center opened not until 09: 00h, we drove to the first lookout points. Later we wanted to get a permit for a hike in the "Fiery Furnace" in the center. The area is particularly beautiful and the access strictly limited.

The first starting point was called "Garden of Eden" and was very impressive. The distance view together with the rock formations was worth the stop. After the photos, we saw two other tourists of asian descent who tried to take a good photo with a selfie stick. I asked briefly if I should do one of them and they gratefully accepted. Then we said goodbye and drove on. The next breakpoint was called "Windows" and it was the first big Arches that gave the park its name.

Since there were still few visitors, we were able to take great pictures and were suddenly back in front of the two tourists. They had chosen the same stop and again we could help each other while taking pictures. We laughed about the coincidence and the two introduced themselves as Kevin and Harvey. They are originally from Hong Kong (where they met), but now both worked in the US. We talked briefly and then said goodbye. In laughter we said "see you later".

After the funny coincidence we drove back to the entrance to get the permit. Unfortunately, all the permits were sold out for the day, and also for the next day, Saturday. Only for Sunday there were still spots. Spontaneously, we decided to stay a little longer in the area and booked the special hike on Sunday. We first had to look at an informational video that explained the exact rules to follow. Everything seemed logical for us (not leaving the path, leaving no waste, talking quietly, etc.), but apparently such instructions are needed.

After everything was set, we went back deeper into the park. The next destination was the Delicate Arch, one of Utah's landmarks and known for many pictures. The way leads over a 45-minute hike that pretty much goes up the mountain. And here there were already many, many tourists. One saw dozens of tourists winding along the path towards the distant destination. And as we climbed the mountain, Kevin and Harvey suddenly came towards us. Of course, they had climbed to the most desirable object. With a laugh we greeted and continued on our way.

The "Delicate Arch" was well worth the effort. Breathtaking the view and the gigantic rock arch. Nicole, Gregory and David did not want to go down to take a picture. So I went alone with ZOé and Yannic. In front of the coveted photo object formed a queue, so that the photos could be made fair. And funnily, everyone handed his camera to the next group, so that they can take pictures. Behind us stood four students, with whom we briefly had a conversation and then took pictures with my smartphone. Only later did we discover that they used the time we set ourselves up to shoot a funny selfie. Super funny idea :)

After the photo, we climbed back into the valley and drove on. There were other Arches we wanted to visit. So we came to the Landscape Arch, where the way went even further, to more arches. But Gregory was too exhausted and the road was very demanding. So Nicole went back to the RV with him and I went on with ZOé, David and Yannic. We followed the path to the Partition Arch and then to the Navajo Arch. From there it should continue to the Double-O, but who came to meet us there? Kevin and Harvey. It was just amazing. Again we helped each other to take pictures, but missed to take a picture of them. Too bad it would have been a great memory of them. Laughing, they noticed that tomorrow they will drive to "Canyonlands Park". That was actually our goal as well. So we said goodbye with a "see you tomorrow", knowing that the chances were very low to see them again.

We four then went on to the Double-O-Arch in a very adventurous way. The kids did great though and so we came safely back to the RV. We went shopping in Moab and then drove to the camping ground. Tired but extremely fascinated by the great day we went to bed.
