The Grand Canyon. THE GRAND CANYON !!! Probably one of the most famous landmarks in the USA. We were often asked on the trip, if we also visit the GRAND CANYON. Yes we do, today. The departure was easy, because the Camping Ground in Cameron was actually just an old parking lot with electricity and water. But ok for one night.
The ride to GRAND CANYON was then only about 30 minutes. Into the park and on to the first overlookpoint. And there he was, the GRAND CANYON. And that's it. Of course, he is very impressive. And deep. And big. But we had already seen some canyons. And, frankly, even nicer ones. Above all, the GRAND CANYON is one thing: big.
The enthusiasm was therefore a little limited. This also contributed to the fact that the GRAND CANYON is probably one of the most popular destinations, and therefore also well-attended. Especially on a Sunday. This was especially evident at the "Mather's Point", the lookout point directly at the Visitor Center. In hordes the visitors stood there and took each other away the view.
Therefore, we left the GRAND CANYON very quickly and after leaving the park it became clear what we were spared, namely a loooooooooooooong traffic jam. Where all these cars wanted to park was a mystery to us. The parking lot was definitely full on our departure.
The ride then took us a bit to the south, before we wanted to take the Interstate 40 west. More by accident, we saw a promotional sign for "Bearizona," a drive-through wildlife park just off the entrance to the Interstate. We paid and we were ready to go. On a leisurely way we went through various enclosures with bisons, wolves and bears. The kids were super excited and we also enjoyed seeing the impressive animals so close.
After the entertaining break, we drove on to Boulder City, a town near Las Vegas. Here we wanted to take another working day before we drive to the city of lights. On the one hand to really get on with the work and the diaries, but also so that we arrive on a Tuesday in Las Vegas. Experience shows that the prices are much cheaper during the week.
The accommodation in Boulder City we booked online and paid directly via Paypal. Worked smoothly ... until we got there. It turned out that the camping ground was fully booked. Since the reservation / payment system was not connected online, we could still book. Unfortunately, we have skipped the corresponding warning. What to do? We were about to call a nearby place and ask for a seat when the super friendly clerk suddenly remembered something. In the afternoon, apparently a guest had left, although he had paid another night. And this place was of course marked as "occupied" in the system. He went straight to the check it and then brought us the good news: the place was indeed free. So we came to the pitch and after a shower we were happy campers again.
