Utah's fifth large park (besides Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Bryce) is Zion National Park. And we visited him today. Early in the morning Dean (a friendly worker of the Camping Grounds) drove us to the park entrance so we could leave back our RV. That made sense, because Zion is closed to normal cars. Instead, there is a convenient shuttle service that you can use at will. This will get you to 9 stops in the park and one can hike from there. It makes sense to avoid many car trips and the park is not overcrowded with cars. Otherwise it would not work because of the very few parking places.
Dean told us the best trails (hikes) that we should do and so we went on his advice first to the last stop. On the way then started a fairly heavy rain, which clouded our mood a bit. Fortunately, it was only a short shower and the rest of the day the weather was reasonably. It was trickling now and then, but that was no problem.
So we explored the landscape, which looked very different than in Bryce or Moab. More plants and especially other animals. We saw turkeys, deer and weird insects, which later turned out to be larvae of the Dobson fly.
At 2 pm we returned to the entrance and Dean picked us up again. We were not unhappy about the early time, as the park was noticeably filling up and the hikes resembled more of a peoples movement. There was nothing left of the peace in the park.
Back at the camping ground, the children were allowed to wash some more dirt. That sounds weird, but they were eager to do it. You bought a bag of "dirt" for a few dollars, which you could wash in a water channel. There were a variety of "gems" (of course, of little or no value) to find. The kids had a lot of fun and collected their trophies. Then there was a quick dinner, because already was the next event. In the large common room they could paint a "pet stone". Although not as fun as the snakes of the day before, it was a good pastime. The friendly atmosphere on the campground was simply contagious.
Unfortunately, we already knew that we had to drive off the next day, because in this place everyone would have liked to stay longer.
