Out West Wanderings II

This morning we were up early to feed the horses and get ready for our ride. We decided to do the trail I call “Up and Over”. It is a short loop but goes right up the side of a mountain and travels across the peak and then back down to the 50 Year Trail and back to camp. Dan had never ridden it before, but I had several times alone with Blaze.
The trail starts going out the west side of camp and along the wash. After about a mile, it goes up a series of switch backs until you are on the top. I used to think this trail was rocky and rough, but after riding Superstition trails, it seems easy.

The wildflowers were blooming in thick patches along the ridge and I stopped and got off several times to take closer pictures. The ride was a nice one although, short. It was only 2.38 miles.

I wanted to paint in watercolor today, so this gave me lots of time. It was a hot day and I had trouble with the water drying too fast. Since the sun was moving, the shadows on the mountains kept changing. I will have to finish it another time since I needed to go in and fix supper.

Meals are interesting when camping. The area to cook in is so small that I am spread out all over the camper. I put a bread board on the bed and one in the sink for counter space. The table gets used too. I like good food, so I try to plan meals out ahead of time.

Today for breakfast, we had omelets with fried yellow peppers and onions, cheddar cheese and tomatoes. I fixed link sausages and toast. Then to top it off, I took a day-old cinnamon roll cut in half and fried it in butter, brown sugar and maple syrup. It tastes even better than a sticky bun.

Lunch was left over pork roast sandwiches, chips and coleslaw.
For supper, I made homemade meatballs to go with the Prego sauce and spaghetti. We had garlic rolls from the freezer. We finished with Haagen-Daz toffee and chocolate covered ice cream bars. We don’t lose any weight when camping!

The sunset was gorgeous, and I am tired, but content.

Blessings on you. Until tomorrow, Pam
