Out West Wanderings II

Today we are going to the vet's with our two horses. Since we didn't want to ride out on trail and take the chance of being late, we decided not to ride until after our appointment at 1:00.

That allowed me to get out the sour dough starter and figure out how to use it. A woman at Catalina was desperate when she arrived because she had forgotten her baking soda. I always carry all my baking supplies and gave her some. She was so thankful that the next morning she came over with some starter for me.

The interesting thing is this starter is over 80 years old! Her grandmother made it and passed it on to her mother, who passed it on to her. Today was the first chance I got to make something out of it.

So I made pancakes! They were excellent and now I am looking up online how to feed and keep the starter for other baking.

Talking about heritage, I was appreciating my mother's afghan which is on our bed in the camper. I distinctly remember Mom crocheting it and how very long this one took her. She complained about that, but in the end this is the heaviest, most durable afghan I have ever seen. She embroidered the brown cross stitch design on it afterwards. It makes a great bedspread for our camper since it fits exactly on top.

I have been thinking about the cougars. It would be a real thrill to get to see even just a glimpse of one while we are here. When we go out to ride next, I am curious to see how much of that buck is left.

I also plan to work on the pan pastel of the cougar I started.
So have a good day and bless those around you.
Pam
