Out West Wanderings II

We ended up not getting to Ahler's Ranch in Pendleton, Kentucky until 7:00 pm last night. The name is rather deceiving because it isn't a ranch at all. It is a barn with an apartment. The owners live about a half mile up the dirt driveway and we never saw them. The hosts had given us the keypad combination and we were able to let ourselves in.

The two horses, Pearl and Blaze, were led into extremely large, well-bedded stalls. They settled in happily munching their grain and hay. We had been on the road for over 9 hours.

Some of you may be wondering about the horses being in the trailer that long. We make sure that we stop and take breaks. They never come out of the trailer but they get relief from the balancing that they must do as we brake and turn. We had a half hour lunch break and then later in the afternoon we stopped and took a quick nap. They rested a third time as we went into a Bob Evans for supper.

This morning we were up at 5:30, did chores, ate breakfast in the camper and then headed out about 7:30. It was only 19 degrees, so we were glad that we had rented the Tack Room apartment. We aren't really set up to camp yet because of the antifreeze in all the water pipes. Jax had to put on his jacket to keep warm.

We are headed to Wynne, Arkansas, where we will stay overnight at the Village Creek State Park. We stayed there last year, but didn't take the time to ride any of their trails. Google maps says we should arrive there at 1:44 Central time, but of course, we have an hour difference and it takes much, much longer to drive pulling a horse trailer. I am hoping to get there before dark.

Praying for another safe day of travel.
Blessings,
Pam
