It is almost time to go! For the last week, I have been doing all the advance work that I am able. Dan and I will be leaving in a couple days to travel on a riding vacation to Arizona with our horses.
This is the fourth time we have taken horses along with us on vacation. We drive an RV with a horse trailer towed behind it. The first time we went took three weeks and went to Indian Creek, Colorado and back. The second time we drove to the Grand Canyon and spent a month in Arizona and New Mexico. And last winter we spent 8 weeks camping in Arizona. We like it so well that we are going back for a second time.
Fortunately, I have all the menus and what to bring for the horses and humans in my computer. But, we still had a lot to get ready. I had to check the horse first-aid kit and get replenish the medical supplies we used up over the year. The horses needed Health Certificates to cross state lines, we needed a Recreational Permit Parking Pass for Arizona and we needed to reserve some horse motels for the 5 day drive.
Dan was busy replacing tires, checking all the systems in the RV and arranging to have the animals cared for that weren't going.
Today, I bought all the food for the menus and took the dog to get clipped. Dan was busy getting prescriptions filled and taking care of filling the propane tanks.
My 10 houseplants have all been re-homed until we get back. Loads of clothes were washed today. Tomorrow we will start packing the horse trailer and camper.
This year Dan has a new ride, Pearl.(The black horse) She is beautiful, well-mannered and has some trail riding skills already. Hopefully, he won't fall off her like he did Jazz twice last year. I am riding old faithful, Blaze. He is a reliable mount.
Check back on Thursday for how our first leg of the journey from Pennsylvania to Kentucky turns out.
Blessings,
Pam
