Today we woke up early and intended to leave Woody's Corral early in order to get to Copper Penny Ranch in New Mexico. The horses were good to go, and Dan had replaced the tire on the horse trailer that had been getting soft.
We had to say goodbye to Vicki and Jeff who we had met at Catalina State Park and who had come to Gila National Park behind us. They were going to stay for two weeks. Vicki really wanted us to stay longer, but with the rain and no riding we had decided to leave a day earlier than we had planned. Both Jeff and Vicki loved Jax and offered to take him if we ever decided we didn't want him. We talked so long saying good-bye that we ended up leaving an hour and a half later than we intended. But it was worth it. We had made new friends and next year intend to meet up with them in Arizona.

Gila to New Mexico
We had gone to town a couple days ago to get Pearl's medicine for the ride home. She needs to keep the acids in her stomach
from sloshing around and making her ulcer worse. We have her on rice bran, which is supposed to help with the acid and alfalfa which has more calcium than regular hay to help with the acid, too.
Also, when we were in Silver City, we had tried to call the next place we wanted to stay over, which was The Copper Penny Ranch. We just got the answering machine, which was full, so we couldn't leave a message. I went out on Facebook and found their page and left a message and I also texted them and emailed them.
The today when we went to Silver City on our way out, I did receive an email saying they had room. When we arrived, there was no one around, so we went to a house and a lady told us that the owner was gone for the day. He didn't live there.
Since we had no place else to go, we parked in their huge lot and tied the horses to the trailer. The lady was trying to get a hold of someone for us. Finally, an hour later the owner, Max, arrived.
He was so nice and showed us where to bed our horses and we hooked up to his electric, sewer and water. Come to find out, he was no longer doing a commercial business of RV park and horse boarding. He only charged us a total of $40.
The facilities for the horses were nice and the horses settled in immediately. Pearl was showing no stress and no pain after our day of travel.
We had not heard any news reporting for a week and were surprised at the panic the US was in over the Coronavirus scare. We couldn't believe that they were shutting down schools, restricting travel and causing the stock market drop. I almost wish we had stayed in the wilderness a couple more weeks. :-)
Tomorrow we head to Texas. Lots of rain again on the way.
God bless, Pam
