Out West Wanderings II

Before I rode today, I wanted to write to my dear older friend, Ruby Nelson. Ruby and I painted together for several years before she got where her back was bothering her and she was having stress fractures all the time. I still try to get out to visit with her a couple times a month. So today I decided to paint her a little water color and include it in her envelope with the note card. I think she will like it.

Next, I got ready to ride. Pearl wasn't exactly ready for us when we got there, but she jumped up after I got the photo of her laying down. We had just got the horses out when a man walked over to see if we wanted to ride. We had already discussed that we were going to ride alone and see if we could figure out the "Green house" loop that Nameless had taken us on the other day,

To get to the trails, we have to cross the Hassayampa River. Now that might seem like a problem, except the river runs underground. This is an "intermittent river" that comes to the surface in places, but is underground most of the year. It follows a hole into a large, long aquifer where it remains hidden until water levels rise and it resurfaces.

The next obstacle is a railroad trestle that goes over the trail. It has a gate that you open to the trail. We were warned to listen before we go under to open the gate as the trains are running often on the track above.

Before I rode today, I wanted to write to my dear older friend, Ruby Nelson.

Dan and I practiced opening gates mounted on our horses. They are getting better at it already and will side step over, so you can grab the latch.

We didn't have any trouble finding the trail and rode past the "Green House" and ate our lunch on top of the mountain. The views were pretty and it was such a nice day.

I will post some of the photos I took.

It was so nice to ride and not to have to worry about being watched and reported to the owner!

I am excited for the next couple of days of riding since it is supposed to be 69 degrees. We want to see if we can get someone to show us a new trail and ride with them.

Now to find a mailbox to send out Ruby's letter.
Until tomorrow.
Blessings, Pam
