Out West Wanderings II

It was freezing again overnight and I had to break the ice off the horses water containers. Because of the cold we decided to wait until after lunch to explore the riding. We rode an hour and 40 minutes and covered 4 miles of new trail.

I find the riding here a bit monotonous. High desert is high desert and there are great views, but no destinations. When we have ridden other places we are always riding to something, a waterfall, the black mesa, the Sheep tank etc. but here we have not found anything special to ride to.

Today we picked the first trail off the wash and it went up the mountain with a few switchbacks and lots of rocks. Once up on top you could see for miles. There were lots of saguaro cactus in some of the slopes. We had heard from another rider that it took 13 inches of rain a year for them to thrive.

I took a lot of pictures of the distant views, but they are so far away, that you can't see much. We located our campground from the mountaintop and the city of Wickenburg. There is music and dancing on the bridge there tonight. I am not sure if we will go or not. It will be super busy and it is hard to find a place to park the motor home.
One of the residents told us we needed to rent a four-wheeler to get around. We do see them driving right down the washes and on the streets.

The ant situation got worse again last night with the warmer daytime temperatures. I must have killed a dozen just waiting for Dan to finish his shower. He did spray under the camper and in the cracks and crevices leading into the camper. We cannot spray inside unless we leave with the dog for an hour and a half. I may suggest we work our horses in the round pens and take the dog with us tomorrow. I didn't sleep too well again last night and had a nap before noon because I was so tired. The directions said we would see no results for at least three days. Counting the days....
I did see some poppies were starting to bloom here. They are so bright and cheery.
Till tomorrow. Blessings, Pam
