Watt Knot Travels

We hung around the basin in Chester most of the week & finally got to do the walking tour of Chester. Deva (Chester) was built in 79AD as a fortress against the Welsh tribes. When the Romans left, the Anglo-Saxons were subjected to Viking raids. Then came the Norman invasion & the English Civil War seige. It all happened here, & a lot of it is still here to see. In the basement of shops there are still Roman pillars.
Every evening at 8.50pm the curfew bell still rings as a reminder to lock the city gate. During Edward I reign, if per chance a Welshman was found within the city walls, it was quite legal to kill him without reason. Such was the lowly status of a Welshman in the eyes of the English. Still a sore point I think!
We moored out in the countryside for a couple of nights. Our batteries were getting low as we had been stationary for too long. Only way to put charge in the batteries other than solar (which wasn't happening much this week) is to run the diesel engine.

We moored out in the countryside for a couple of nights. Our batteries were getting low as we had been stationary for too long. Only way to put charge in the batteries other than solar (which wasn't happening much this week) is to run the diesel engine.
That's where we met a cow in the canal. What the! His mate was standing on the bank mooing to say "look what he's done". Now, I don't know if this was a

common occurrence, but I was distressed. It was getting dark & the thought of this poor cow standing in the canal all night was more than I could bear. So I applied the art of cow whispering & told him he couldn't stay there, he had to find a way to get out. Sure enough, he mooed at me & started walking along the edge until he found a silted up point where he could hoist himself back onto the bank. Mission accomplished!
