Watt Knot Travels

This week we are both fighting over the tissue box. Just popped to the shops to restock in Chester. Nothing like a prime parking spot right outside the supermarket even though it took 4 hours to get there. Oh locks, I did miss you! It was nice to be out & cruising again.
We were in Chester again to see the Christmas lights & enjoy the delights of the Christmas market. I love those pop-up market stalls that appear out of nowhere in the cities & towns for the festive season.
We had a surprise visitor to our boat Wednesday night while I was asleep & Jon was still working. The boat rocked a bit, so Jon opened the stern doors to check what was happening. There was a stranger on our boat bending over we think doing a security check on our stern lockers. He corrected us by telling us that he had just fallen in the canal & was getting back to safety. The fact that he wasn't wet & was carrying an unspilt coffee in one hand was a miracle.
Day trip on the train took us under the Mersey & popped up in Liverpool. Don't get me started on the train system, its overpriced & confusing. Swindon to London return cost £96 for 2, but if you buy single tickets, its £56. Go figure. It's a matter of fiddling with dates, times & routes to find the best price. I say nationalise the rail system, the current system is in the too hard basket.

Liverpool was the coldest day I have experienced to date. The temperature didn't get above 3°c, plus the wind sweeping off the Mersey made it feel even colder. We visited the bombed out church destroyed by incendiary bombs & left as-is as a monument. Too cold to stay outside so we took shelter in the Maritime Museum reading up on 2 Liverpool ships who both met the same fate by different circumstances; Titantic & Lusitania.
