Week 14 - Dilemna

Conwy Castle completed the trio of castles we visited in Wales. Back to Nantwich where we found the boat still waiting for us. Grocery shop, return the hire car, time to move on. Our batteries need charging.
Continuing on the Shropshire Union Canal past the Llangollen arm. This is new territory complete with a cheese factory beckoning as we came to a screech. Cheese & chutneys....Yum.
Winter is coming, what will we do? Canal life has its winter hurdles, maintenance closures, being iced in & who knows what other horrors. We are warm & toasty in the boat now, but how much worse

is it going to get? First winter, I think we'll pass & take refuge in a marina.
We need to find a marina that we can get to without being blocked by lock closures. Ideally, we were hoping to keep cruising til December, but we are near the end of the Shropshire Union canal, so we can only go one way - back. The only option is to retrace our steps & repeat our journey. Our escape route to get further north has been blocked via a breach on the Middlewich branch. Make a hurried exit back to Droitwich or Tattenhall which we are now on top of.? I think the decision clincher came when we saw the internet speed test needle skyrocket around the dial. Yes! The Holy Grail has been found! The marina was quite nice too. Lets do it. Plan now is to travel to the end of the line at Ellesmere Port, turn around & roost at Tattenhall Marina for 3 months. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. I'll let you know when we are knee deep in snow. Then, I'll know we made the right decision.
First Artic blast hit this week. I pushed myself out the door heavily laden in layers & walked into Tattenhall. I can do this!
