Watt Knot Travels

We left Stourport Monday noon after an interview about Watt Knot for the Towpath Talk magazine. Kidderminster would only take us two hours. Three locks - easy. Well, lets rethink that when the anti-vandal key doesn't work in those locks & you are stuck waiting for the next boat to come along & rescue you. The clock struck three as we left the top lock & the bells started chiming the hymn Holy, Holy, Holy, as we were heralded into our mooring spot.

It can be a blessing or a curse being moored next to a shopping centre. If you are in desperate need, its your saviour. If you don't need anything, you'll always end up buying more than you need "just in case", or "that'll come in handy". Now we own a soundbar for the tv.

Kidderminster, known for its carpets & Sir Rowland Hill who came up with the idea of postage stamps.

We moored Wednesday just outside Kinver. Not 5 mins later & the rain came down. It was quite exhilarating watching the darts of rain bouncing off the canal. I am a self confessed pluviophile you see. I may seriously overdose in this country, as it rained mostly the rest of the week & we cruised in it!

We trudged through the village & up a hill to get to Kinver Edge to see the rock houses. These homes were carved out of the sandstone & were inhabited until the 1960's. By the time we left, the rain was falling harder & we decided to take a short-cut. Our gortex raincoats were doing an excellent job at keeping us dry, it was just the rain soaking my pants dripping into my socks & shoes that made an urgent squelch home.

Back on the cut popping inside. My brain is thinking we left the hatch open too long, the mat is drenched. Next thought is......no we are leaking water! There were a few minutes of intense action trying to work out where the water was coming from. In my technical terms, " a bit fell off the calorifier". Once Jon had assured me that we were not sinking & my Titanic performance at the stern was not needed, we sent out an SOS to Ortomarine who came & saved us within 30 mins. We calculated we lost approx 300 ltrs of water as we only filled the tank the previous day. Back to the water point for another refill.
