Watt Knot Travels

We snuck out of Llangollen as the sun came up Sunday morning on our return trip back over THAT aqueduct. Wanted a clean run back into Chirk with no oncoming traffic. It was a chilly morning, still & serene as we stealthily passed the countryside running on electric. I could look down over the aqueduct this time. Amazing!
We visited Chirk Castle after defrosting my feet from our early morning jaunt. Thought it would be a good idea to walk to the castle, a 1 hour walk away. Forgot castles are built on hills, would have been easier on the bike.
We stayed put in Ellesmere for 4 nights mainly because of the good internet signal we are constantly chasing. I hurt my foot somehow, & was hobbling around on 1 foot for a few days. Couldn't walk any great distance, so confined to barracks & worked. The first part of the week, the weather was amazingly kind & hovered in the low 20's.
By Wednesday the beautiful weather was beckoning, & I needed freedom, so I suggested a bike ride to the mere.

By Wednesday the beautiful weather was beckoning, & I needed freedom, so I suggested a bike ride to the mere.

I think my bike riding skills need brushing up, it used to be so easy as a child. I have an electric bike that wants to go faster than me even at level one assistance. My idea of a bike ride is nice & gentle. Time to smell the roses, say hello to the cows etc. Meanwhile Jon is ramped up on level 5 reliving his boy-racer days. Two ends of the spectrum here. The towpath is quite narrow in places & one dip into a pot hole, I could see myself launching into the canal, groceries & all! I am not going to be the first one to be baptised in the canal. (Every boaters rite of passage).
We left Ellesmere in the wind & rain on Friday morning. Don't mind sitting outside in the rain, but the wind can be dangerous. The wind gusts can push you across the canal into other boats & structures. It's a constant battle to keep straight. We called it a day after 2 hours as the first lift bridge loomed ahead. Didn't fancy getting bashed against that. We'll wait it out, then move on.
