Watt Knot Travels

Double socks & double gloves this week as the temperature drops. Snow paid us a visit again. North & South of the UK are getting up to 10cm of snow, but we seem to be in a bubble being protected by the Welsh Hills & the Penines. We get a fine dusting. Still, it's not the snow that was our enemy, it's the ice as the marina froze over & remained most of the week. We did have some foresight to fill up with diesel & empty "cookie monster" in case we couldn't get to the pump for a while. We forgot about the water, it froze in the taps on the jetty. We couldn't get water into the boat. Luckily we still had 100 ltrs in the tank, just another reminder of the perils of winter. I am thankful to Brian & Daisy getting me off the boat for morning walks. I have now worked out 4-5 layers for the coldest of days.
On our weekly shop in Chester we stumbled on the original Chester cathedral dating from the middle ages. Note the coffin that was discovered & embedded in a wall. We also finished our week in a cathedral at Lichfield, the only 3-spired cathedral. Just opposite is the home of Erasmus Darwin (Charles Darwin's grandfather).

He had a very impressive CV; doctor, inventor, scientist & even poet. It must've been his poetic skills that won him his 2nd wife. She was young, beautiful & highly sought after. Yet she chose Darwin, old, portly, often seen with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. This girl definitely picked brains over beauty. Darwin had 14 children by 3 women.
