Week 23 - Otter Delight

We've just had our first Christmas in the UK. Christmas with the Sullivans. I'm a bit lost, no dinner to cook, no children & no snow.
Come Boxing Day we are travelling further south to Devon for another tick on the bucket list. An otter sanctuary and a steam train sit conveniently across from each other. We were very lucky, the weather turned out to be sunny as the train departed for Totnes from Buckfastleigh. Every place you go, there is always history to be found. We stumbled on a memorial to William Wills, (Burke & Wills) a native of Totnes.
We managed to squeeze in a visit to Agatha Christie's holiday home

Greenway in an absolutely idyllic setting overlooking the estuary. The home has been left exactly as it would have been in the 1950s. Most stately homes are not open over the winter period, so we were lucky to find this one open.
Otter day is here as we arrive at the sanctuary at 10am. Only for otters would you catch me outside in 2°c. First a meet & greet of all the resident otters. They are all soooo cute. Chores for the day were to clean out an enclosure & prepare food. Relief as they offered plastic gloves to handle fish & day old chicks eek!. Feeding time was very orderly as they would stand on their back legs to ask for food & gently take it from your hand with their paws. Otterly delightful!
