Watt Knot Travels

We sent ourselves to Coventry to find IKEA & replenish our crashing stock. We moored in the Coventry basin in the heart of the city with the IKEA sign beckoning us within sight. It still amazes me that I can sleep in the middle of a bustling city. It's so much more grounded, bedding in a boat than a hotel room. You really are at ground level. James Brindley was there to greet us as his statue sits in the basin. Very quiet there to our surprise. We did enjoy our stay, revisiting the bombed out church. We were fortunate to catch the "Angel of Knives" before it moved on. Quite a moving monument created out of confiscated knives of crime. Not forgetting Lady Godiva, who really existed. Did she or didn't she parade through the streets of Coventry to stop her husband imposing more taxes on his subjects?
Moving on to Rugby where we stayed for 4 nights mainly because we wanted to do a tour of the Rugby School, & a planned visit from family. Rugby School only opens its doors on Saturday, but it was well worth the wait. Did you know that the game of Rugby originally had no set numbers of players & no rules! It was a free for all until 3 students were instructed to formulate a set of rules. The school itself is quite pretty & very picturesque. Has a caning tower which shows well worn steps of those poor unfortunates who had to kneel for punishment. The boys even had their own brewery in the early days as the water from the well was unfit for drinking. Current cost of sending your child to Rugby $36,000 per year. From 1975 girls have also been accepted into the school.
