Panama

Blythe and I were the first ones up this morning. The sun was shining and the city was just waking up, so we took our tea to the balcony and watched the morning action. Loved this special time with my sweet girl. Once everyone was awake we walked to the Panama Canal Museum, which happened to be just a few blocks from our apartment. Dennis and I enjoyed learning some of the history of the canal, but the kids were most interested in the exhibit on tropical animal poop :). In the afternoon we took a taxi to the Panama Canal, Miraflores Locks. A large ship was passing through just as we arrived so we got to see the locks in action. It’s a pretty impressive sight! We all decided we’d love to do a Panama Canal cruise and experience a canal passing ourselves!

Back in Casco Viejo, we walked around a bit before finding a spot for dinner. Walker noticed some boys playing soccer and asked us if he could try to play with them. He practiced saying “puedo jugar?” a few times and walked over and joined the game. It brought us so much joy watching Walker run around barefoot with the other kids, laughing and giving high fives. It’s for moments like this that we wanted to make this trip happen. The kids were playing soccer near an old fortress ruin, so the girls and I climbed and explored the brick walls. Walker said he had no idea what anyone was saying, but he was pretty sure they invited him back to play tomorrow. Walker has definitely been on the fence about this whole trip, but after tonight he says he’s excited to get to Bocas and make soccer friends. We found pizza and ice cream for dinner. Such a fun way to end our second day!
