Yesterday, a scooter and I went exploring outside of Kratie, finding viewpoints, Mekong Rapids, floating villages and waffle street vendors and ending up in Kampi, where I spent an hour spotting rare Irawaddy dolphins from a boat on the river! This was such a magical hour (if you exclude the dead dog floating past the boat in the first 5 minutes...) and what made it even more magical was the boat driver who spoke 0 English and opted for shouting "hello hello" accompanied with a pointing finger every time a dolphin became visible. The Khmer people are such amazing, high spirited humans (OK, excluding the school boys who felt the need to stick their middle fingers at me as they cycled past...), not to mention the ladies incredible outfits, extremely similar to 2-piece pyjama sets; I'll definitely have to get myself a cheeky number before I leave. I spent today exploring the island opposite the town on a hired bicycle. I chose the $1 option rather than $2 one, resulting in flat tires, useless brakes, and a seat that wouldn't move but what

Yesterday, a scooter and I went exploring outside of Kratie, finding viewpoints, Mekong Rapids, floating villages and waffle street vendors and ending up in Kampi, where I spent an hour spotting rare Irawaddy dolphins from a boat on the river! can I say, I saved 72p....!! My favourite site from the island, has got to be the 2 year old boy hosing down his cow in his front garden in order to cool him off. I stopped for lunch at 1 of the 2 cafes on the island, where I doubted whether or not I'd actually arrived at the right place as they looked so confused to see me! When I eventually got across that I wanted something to eat, she told me that my options were fried noodles with egg or fried noodles with egg...you'll never guess what I ordered. Although, my dinner yesterday was, mistakenly, the most adventurous dish I have had so far...fish and chips. This was meant to be a bit of a home comfort kind of night, but was far from that. I can't even explain what I was given on that plate...kind of like a piece of grilled fish sandwiched between two pancakey-style things (definitely no batter to be seen, that's for sure).
