Having absolutely loved Battambang (and not just because of the excess of Nissan micra's..), I was reluctant to get on the bus to the capital city of Phnom Penh; although atleast it would just be a quick stop over to sort my Vietnam visa and then I'd be on my way...ha ha ha. Apparently the embassy does not process visas over Easter weekend so that was an extra 2 unnecessary days I'd be spending there already, having done everything that the city has to offer the first time I was here! What made my stay even more enjoyable was the fact that each night, at the same time, the music started blaring, Dutch girls started giggling and the man in the flat upstairs started hammering furniture together; I mean fair enough to them all for the accurate timing and teamwork...I did decide to take this time to do some essential bits and bobs such as fixing my camera and doing some laundry but realised that I'd have to save up for a couple more days if I was to splash out on a new bottle of shampoo!! My evenings became rather repetitive over the weekend, starting with a beer and bowl of nuts for $0.50 on the riverside whilst observing the Asian phenomenon that is evening exercise - rollerskating, football, aerobics, gymnastics, you name it! This was followed by a stroll to the night market to pick up some grub, some of which I will never be too sure what it was...and no, the vegetable spring rolls are not vegetarian, in fact very few vegetables can be found inside, rather a meaty kind of paste (just as delicious though..!). The tuk tuk drivers persistency never ceases to amaze me in these big cities. One driver actually shouted to us as we passed, already in a tuk tuk, as if we were going to make the decision to swap tuk tuks, just for the absolute hell of it...
