We depart the city today and cross the gentle, rolling prairies surrounding Pamplona on our ascent to the Sierra del Perdón with its treacherous downhill to follow. We diverted to the Romanesque church of Santa María de Eunate nestled in vineyards. Once in Puente la Reina, we visited the Church of Santiago with its lovely 13th century image of St. James on the Calle Mayor. Puente la Reina (24 Kms)

We diverted to the Romanesque church of Santa María de Eunate nestled in vineyards. growing and roasting massive and delicious red peppers by holding a market dedicated to the mighty pepper!

There are four main paths across Europe towards Santiago that all converge here in Puenta la Reina. The route that we have been on from Roncesvalles is considered the Royal Road and begins in Paris.
