Camino 2017

Our destination today is Santo Domingo de la Calzada, one of the most emblematic towns on the route. It is here that, according to legend, the inexplicable resuscitation and crowing of a roasted hen served as a harbinger of an even greater miracle: the miraculous resurrection of a pilgrim unjustly hanged for theft, through the intercession of St. Dominic of the Causeway, the saint for whom the village is named. We visited the magnificent Cathedral of the Holy Savior, where a live rooster and hen keep watch from their pen overlooking the main altar in commemoration of the miracle.

We had a spectacular meal in our Hotel this evening including a wonderful potato soup. More great Estrella beer and vino blanco and then the group was off to bed. Susan and the guides were excited to have escaped the most interesting of local yoga classes.
