Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela

There are thousands of written pages available to you to discover the story about how the "relics" of St. James ended up buried in a "field of stars" in Northwest Spain. It is a wonderful story (many believe a fantasy) but never-the-less millions of individuals, all of whom have called themselves pilgrims, have made their way across Europe to this ancient site. Walking on a road partly built by the Romans and in many places guarded by The Knights Templar.

The Royal Road begins its Spanish segment in Roncesvalles some 790 kilometers from Santiago. Traveling from East to West through Spanish time and culture it is a fascinating exploration of human spirit and endeavor. Why pilgrims chose to challenge themselves with this walk is as varied as the individuals. Some say the experience changes everything, others say it changes nothing...

But in any event, St. James, the first of Christ's apostles to be martyred awaits us in a field of stars, Santiago de Compostela!
