Camino 2017

Our walk today continues the georgeous scenery of the last few days and a visit to an historic Celtic site pre dating Christ. The fog added to the sense of time and place. Duane and Susan were joined for lunch by the unique Maris and Greg from New Zealand (krykeeee!). Their travel stories remind us of the places we still have to visit and their humor is enough to give us several kilometers of chuckles. Bill and Diane lunched on what we now know where not cows lips (they were cow ribs... careful with that spanish accent). Lynn and Sue reminded us it was Halloween!

Our stay tonight retains nothing of the medieval atmosphere that made it an important village on the medieval pilgrim's route but , Palas de Rei, is a friendly and welcoming place. The town's name (Palace of the King) derives from a legend that says that the Visigothic king Witiza built the town's palace. Just as it was in the Middle Ages, Palas de Rei is the central town of the area surrounded by many small farming hamlets that home fine examples of Romanesque churches.
