America on the road

5th-12th Aug

After the Dells we decided to go into Michigan from the north so we headed toward Minneapolis, home of the Wisconsin state fair. We got in pretty early so found a really cool market place where I intended to get myself a coffee, we actually bought a peanut butter cup brownie and an M&M cookie, they were both delicious. We went to Starbucks for coffee, did some research in the state fair, decided not to go. Instead we started on the road up to Green Bay, home of the Green Bay Packers. On the way to Landeau Stadium we stopped off in a comic book shop, so I was happy, then a little while down the road the stadium appeared, and even through his hatred of the Packers, Jamie was happy. We drive a little further up and spent the night in a little town called Escanaba, which is really fun to yell. Just pretend you’re a pirate and do it.
We drove over the bridge and Lake Michigan to get to Detroit, home of the Lions, Jamie’s favourite team but the season hasn’t started yet so no game for us,but we might see if we can catch a training session when we come back next week. We stayed in a hotel and after sleep we headed towards Chicago to swap the car, it’s been a great run but the brake squeaks sometimes, we’ve driven her over 14,000 miles and Betty is nowhere near big enough for four adults plus bags.
Post car pick up we went from Chicago back to Detroit on our way to Cleveland, birthplace of the inception of Superman. Before we went on our way to Ohio we stopped off at Allen Park to see a Detroit Lions practice in the morning, where I fell a bit in Love with a dude called Whitehead, because had, hands down, the best bum i’ve ever seen in my life, his face wasn't too bad to look at either. Once I’d finished being a perv and Jamie had finished actually paying attention to his team we went off to Cleveland. While we were in Cleveland, we saw the Superman house (actually Jerry Siegel’s house, as he came up with the idea for superman when he was just a teenager. Unfortunately the house of Joe Schuster, who was the original illustrator, has since been demolished). We also saw the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame building - no time to go in, but it looked cool.
On our way back to Detroit for a preseason Lions Game we stopped at a drive in, where Jamie saw his first ever firefly! Considering we haven't seen any since this trip began, there were quite a lot of them, which was kind of awesome I was starting to think we wouldn’t see any at all!
