Today was great. Excruciating, tiring, muscle-melting, hot, and sweaty. But it was beautiful, invigorating, awe-inspiring, breathtaking, and totally worth it. Today we walked the Path of the Gods on the Amalfi Coast.
We started by taking a ferry from Salerno to Amalfi. We were supposed to take the bus from Amalfi up to Bomerano, where the path starts but the bus wasn't leaving for 3 hours. So we grabbed a cab and took an incredibly expensive ride up a narrow, windy, crazy road, 650m above sea level. I believe the hike was about 7.5 kms and it took us to Nocelle in about 2.5 hours.

Amalfi Coast - Path of the Gods
The hike itself wasn't too difficult but it was very warm out and our backpacks made us very sweaty. This was probably one of the most amazing hikes I've ever done. The views were spectacular. It was hard not to stop every 30 feet to just look around or take a picture.
We have also started getting into geocaching, which is probably more fun for me than the rest of the family. There were a couple listed on this route and we were able to locate one. It's also where we stopped and had lunch with a tremendous view of Positano.
Once the path ended in Nocelle, then the difficult part came. We had to descend 1700 steps down to the town of Positano. Or at least the road that took us to Positano. This was a strain on all of us. We had just hiked for 2.5 hours and now we had to tackle the stairs. We took a lot of breaks because our bodies were quitting on us. Feet were sore
and our legs were literally shaking with each step. It was easier to just run down a set of 20 steps at a time rather than take them slowly. It took us a while, maybe 45 minutes to an hour, but we finally found the road. We then had to walk along this narrow road, with jello-like legs, for about 1 km.
We finally hit Positano where we relaxed for another lunch, then the kids swam in their underwear at the beach, while we waited for our ferry to take us back to Salerno. After the 70 minute ferry, we dragged ourselves back to our apartment, but quickly headed down to the beach for a swim. After the kids grabbed pizza from their usual spot and Jen and I had another date night! All-around fantastic, tiring day.
