Paestum

Ouch...Owwww....Ohhhhh! That's what we sounded like today as we were so sore from yesterday's hike. We leisurely got up today before traveling to Paestum. Finding the correct bus was a bit of an adventure as we had to got to two different bus stations and then quickly hustle to the correct bus stop just minutes before the bus arrived.

It was a bit of long ride down to Paestum. When we arrived we grabbed some gelato for some sugary energy. We then checked out the museum which was quite interesting but it was difficult to hold our interest today as we were still worn out from yesterday. This

museum was home to the only surviving frescoes left in the world. They were primarily used as tombs. Lots of other artifacts still intact from the same time period (~450 BC). Even some older artifacts were found in the region dating back about 4000 BC.

After the museum we grabbed some lunch. The area is known for their buffalo mozzarella. Jen and I had some in our lunch while the kids ventured out with a buffalo burger. It was a little dry, but not too bad.

We then wandered the grounds of the former town, home to three intact temples. The area was much bigger than I expected and it gave you a good idea of what life must have been like. It was impressive to see how much of the remains where still actually all there. The temples were magnificent, especially the temple of Neptune. Hardly any tourists were here, which was a little surprising, considering how

far people travel to see good ruins, and these are some the better ones apparently.

We kind of dragged ourselves through the ruins as it was midday and we were sore. However, we were still motivated to limp 1 km to the sea to cool off. It wasn't too bad of a walk and the beach was very rewarding. The water was a little grimier than Salerno but it was completely sandy unlike the rocky beaches of Salerno.

After the beach we had to briskly walk back (well as brisk as one can while limping) to the bus stop. We're still not sure what happened, if we missed our bus or if it hadn't arrived yet, but we got on the wrong bus and still got back to Salerno. Oh well, better than sitting around unsure if our bus was actually coming. We finished the night we dinner at a recommended restaurant, then had to carry our tired and sore bodies home.
