Day 1

A nice early start today....4:30am :(

Despite the rough timing the day went very smoothly, although it was a long travel day. We were at the airport by 5:30 and the lines were surprisingly non-existent. We calmly waited for our departure then survived our five and half hour flight. Gotta love the headrest entertainment units. Our baggage arrived safely as well.

We then went in search of the transfer train from the airport to the main train station. Piece of cake. We managed to figure out how to catch our train from Rome to Salerno at the main terminal. This trip

was long (3 hours) but enjoyable. The kids slept for most of the trip, which was nice. They needed it.

A lot of the train ride was literally a blur as most of the route was lined with trees. But there were glimpses of scenery every 30 seconds or so. It was awesome to see so much greenery and mountains and countryside. Parts reminded me of the Prairies, parts of Lower Mainland, and parts of the Okanagan. We even got some great views of Mt. Vesuvius.

We arrived in Salerno and were greeted by our awesome host. Who showed us the apartment and gave us some travel tips. We then went in search of food (groceries and dinner). We found a little hole in the wall pizza place and it was great. Picked up some groceries and headed for home exhausted but excited to start exploring tomorrow!
