The morning started well. James picked me up at about 10:30 and after purchasing some snacks we headed to palm beach. On the way I showed him the spades I had retrieved from Paige's last holiday and he looked less than impressed.
"I'm not building a sand shark, I'm not a child!" He grumbled!
"We'll see about that!" I thought! After stopping for a chocolate milkshake we arrived at Palm Beach- the film set of the popular soap opera Home and Away.
When we arrived, James told me that we would be climbing the billion stairs to go to the lighthouse...um...no! I protested! Today is about sand shark building and relaxing on the beach. Exasperated, he kept banging on about how good the view is and that this is the reason people visit Palm Beach!
Fine! I finally accepted my fate, the steep incline left me moaning obsessively until we reached the top. To be fair, it was really beautiful at the top. We could see two beaches. One, the roaring waves crashed aggressively onto the soft sandy beach and the other was a calm mass of water just laying still with a few boats bobbing peacefully on it.
The path continued further than the lighthouse so we walked to the edge of one of the cliffs and sat on a rock to admire the view for a while longer. Eager to get the spades into action, I finally convinced James to head back to the beach. To cool off I ran/ wobbled into the ocean before realising the waves were enormous and ran back out again before I drowned.
Before long the sand shark building had commenced. James was full of unhelpful criticism that led to two failed shark attempts. Finally I told him that he was no longer invited to sand sculpture time and built the shark by myself. Fearing no credit would be given to him, James quickly dived in and messily patted the sides of the shark down, also digging a far too large eye hole in the side. I appreciated the effort albeit a little forced on his part but the eyes were all wrong so I covered them and stuck a finger into the sand to create a more realistic eye hole and then took some snaps of it before it could be ruined again.
Realising that sand shark time might have been enjoyed more by me than him, I agreed to a game of freebee. He happily fetched the freebie as I enthusiastically threw it towards him. I would have caught it more often had it been thrown slightly closer to my hands and not so much at my ankles and face!
The wind was quite strong which made frisbee time a tad tricky so we decided to have a go at kicking the football to each other instead. I was pretty terrible at this too and it wasn't long before we both gave up.
We finished our beach trip by returning to Mc Donald's for a Mc Flurry. Whilst wolfing down the smooth, creamy ice cream we watched a guy windsurfing. It was pretty clear that he was a little bit rubbish at it and we both worried that he might fall off the cliff and drown in the sea! Luckily we watched him land safely on solid ground so we were able to head back to Dee Why with a clear conscience.
