#TheGreatOceanRoad&theKoala

Great Ocean Road, 14.11.2017

The car is packed, the flask is full of hot steamy water and we're off! Onto the Great Ocean Road. Before coming to Australia I googled pictures of The Great Ocean road but none of them prepared me for two things, one: how incredibly beautiful it would be and two: how flipping cold it would be!

Along the way, we stopped at a national park where we were greeted by a huge, ugly emu! It pecked aimlessly at the ground enabling me to stealthily sneak by. Koala spotting hadn't been going so well on the road. I occasionally squealed thinking I had seen one but each time it turned out to be a tree branch.

We scoured the area but no luck. I was promised a koala and I had been let down! Lied to even! Giving up we headed to the gift shop where I tried on amusing hats and asked my dad to buy me cuddly toys as compensation for the lack of koalas. Luck struck us though as the woman in the shop told us there was a koala not too far away and started to walk us through the park to a tall tree.
Sitting peacefully sat the chubby, grey little fellow scratching himself with his back legs! It was amazing!

He jiggled and wriggled and even climbed across to another branch. It was fun watching his little foot struggle to reach the branch above him. Once satisfied with our koala spotting and magnum ice creams we headed back to the car but this time there was a problem. Two emus patrolled the car park creating a barrier between me and the car. Luckily one emu was occupied by trying to attack a small child for his ice cream. I seized the opportunity and began to speed to the car when the father of the crying child clapped loudly and shooed the bird towards me! Luckily, we all escaped with our lives and on the way out, we saw another emu with her chicks - they were very cute!

We left the park and continued on the road, along the way we spotted another koala, this one was very lazy and was sleeping happily in his tree. There is always something more special and exciting about seeing animals in their natural environment even if they are too rude to get up for a photo!
