#Factor50

I don't know if it's because Bondi and Byron had both been so incredible or if Surfer's Paradise is just underwhelming but it was my least favourite part of my trip. Not that I didn't have fun, it just lacked the sparkle and atmosphere of the other places I had been to in Australia.

The buildings are risen high above the ground overlooking the ocean. The clouds turned the water into a dulled duck egg blue colour and the waves trickled across the beach gently. Now I really dislike rowdy, arrogant football guys but what I dislike even more is 3 full football teams of rowdy, arrogant football guys that I would be sharing a hostel with. As I rolled up with my bag to the hostel, a group of about 20 lads was stumbling out the door, play fighting in the street and shouting obnoxiously! I already missed the friendly, chilled out atmosphere of Byron as I walked into the testosterone filled common area.

Luckily in my room, I found a lovely girl from Taiwan and she invited me out to dinner with her and her two friends. Neither of them were strong English speakers so there were lots of shaking heads and confused faces as we attempted conversation. Whilst eating pizza, however, the universal thumbs up let everyone know that we were happy eating and drinking!

Once full, we grabbed some wine and headed to the beach. A guy called Tom (NZ) from our room joined us giving a bit of light relief from the language barrier, but he also had the personality of a spoon so in some ways it was more fun playing charades with the others in an attempt to show them what I was talking about.

When I returned to my hostel I was pleased to find that everyone was either still out or passed out, so it was quiet enough to sleep!

It was drizzling and a bit cold in the morning so I decided to have a nose around the Ripley's museum. I saw the world's tallest man, fattest man and smallest man along with the weird and wonderful people like the man born with only half a body and the people that shrunk their mate's heads to wear as necklaces. Luckily my best friend Milly already has a small head so I shouldn't need to do much shrinking when she pops it!

I reckon once my trips over, I could end up in serious competition with the world's fattest man too! To improve my chances of winning, I went for a hot chocolate and waited for Erika and Jai to arrive. I got lost twice trying to find them but it was so nice to see a friendly face when we were reunited! They too were underwhelmed by Surfer's and we agreed that one day was enough so I changed my bus to Brisbane so I would leave with them in the morning.

Applying the expression "when in Rome" we booked to do a club crawl, free entry to 7 clubs, 4 free drinks and a BBQ buffet! Erika lent me a dress and we did our hair and make up. 6:30pm and I was first at the buffet- not just a hot dog! They even had side salads! The day had improved rapidly.

We got our watered down free drink and soon it was time to go to the first club. It was called Bedroom and the DJ was actually quite good! We all sported our best dance moves including the entire gardening dance- original choreography by yours truly, the trolley walk, catching stars and the twerk!

By the time we reached club 3 the same songs with the same people continued to play, the watered down drinks hadn't really had an effect on me and I was too poor to buy a single vodka and coke for $10 so people started to become annoying and the repeated songs a bit dull!

Our last stop was Sin City and yes it is as tacky and awful as the name implies. The bar staff dress in their Ann Summer's style underwear and have a constant look of misery and hate on their overly made up faces. The same songs played again and drunk people barged into us repetitively. I realised how much of an old, grumpy woman I have become and decided it was probably best to throw in the towel and go find my bed!
