Gargantuan mountains stood like silent guards in the backdrop with white clouds puffing above them as if from a pipe. This is the scene as we drove from Queenstown to Frans Joseph. Every inch of land was covered in something beautiful. It was so full of life from the farms to the lakes and the waterfalls. Each stop made with its own wow factor.
We made a stop for lunch at a waterfall, the stones around the area had all been stacked artistically. It may be that they are stone temples said to give you an extra year of life per stone which would have meant that the kid we saw building a tower will live well into his hundreds. I on the other hand only added one stone to a ready made pile because I was unaware of this phenomenon.
The journey was long but worth it. As we weaved through the narrow roads through valleys and over mountains, we exclaimed and marvelled at the beauty before us. We stopped off at a little beach that had another pile of rocks. Each rock was signed with names or cheesy sayings so I got my artist's pen out and wrote a cheesy mantra of my own. "Travel more, Laugh often and Love always!" The Americans will LOVE it! I mean, I have a tear in my eye just thinking about how wise it is. Unfortunately, we were being eaten alive by sandflies so we didn't stop long to soak in the profound advice.
We continued our journey past Lake Wanaka, we stopped a couple of times to take photographs with it as it was just too pretty to bypass.

More beaches, more lakes, more mountains. It was scenery overload!
Once we reached the house, we squeezed the car into the narrow driveway and began the new ritual of cheese and crackers sundowners. The house had a sea view on the balcony, the beach only a stone throw away. The beach itself was built up of grey sand, the sea was greying too as the sun started to set. Above us, the clouds turned multiple shades of red, pink and orange as the last of the day's rays shone through them. Unfortunately, a couple canoodling spoilt our view for a bit but they soon moved on leaving us to enjoy the quiet beach almost alone.
