“Cockadoodoodledoo!” My eyes sprung open while my brain tried to catch up to tell me where I was! I looked out the window which confirmed that is was still dark! “Cockadoodoodledoo!” Again the rooster shouted out for attention! I mean really, how much information could this rooster be needing to share at 5:30am?!
When I woke again, there was daylight peeking through the gap in my curtains. I pulled them back to observe our surroundings. Our holiday house was plonked in the middle of the countryside surrounded by farm animals and open fields.
"How delightful!" I thought,
"Cocka..."
"SHUT THE F@* UP!" maybe less delightful. Despite the incredibly irritating rooster the rest of the farm was much more peaceful, white horses grazed in the fields behind us while cows mooched about aimlessly ahead of us. It was time to gobble up breakfast and hunt for wine!
Our first stop was at a quaint little shopping village. There you could taste a variety of honeys, spirits, all the while listening to a live musician in the bandstand. Splendid!

Splendid!
Not splendid, it was nearing midday and we were yet to try any wines! To rectify the situation we
immediately made our way to the nearest winery. Upon arrival, an elderly lady greeted us before whispering the most incredible words to me that I had heard since turning 27. "Are you overage? I'm guessing you can have a drink as you're with your parents!" Yes ladies and gentlemen, this senile superhero thought I could be 17! My wrinkled forehead immediately began to relax as I transformed from pug to smug! But enough about me...
Queue pompous performance of tasting wines; the swirling of the glass, the inhaling of the scent, the pause for dramatic effect before tentatively taking a small swig. "Remember pears!" I thought to myself.
"The pear.."
"It has a rather smokey taste doesn't one think?" Mitch said.
"Oh yes! Yes, smokey indeed! I was going to say just that!" I lied.
Dammit! Must try to increase wine vocab for the next tasting!
Once slightly tipsy, we went to find lunch. After trying about 5 thousand different places, we eventually settled on the place we had planned to go to in the first place. It was situated on a winery and had good burgers! I am now the size of a bus but still, I shovelled more food and wine into my cake hole!
We visited a few more wineries before heading home. I dn;t enhiy thee wnes as muuch fom tis placve bit we hasd them anhyway! Oure final stip wsd at myu dad"s favoritet wiine farn called MMcGuigan (I can't keep this up!) We entered a huge room full of expensive looking wines, and headed straight for the counter! My father was like a kid on christmas when the man offered him the membership package, I saw him shoot Berry his pleading eyes while he mentally calculated the cost of each bottle for the year. We sipped each one gratefully before heading off back to the cottage.
Once home, we were greeted by some visitors. Dozens of bouncy kangaroos gathered in the fields of the farm. One of them grabbed the other by the neck and began shaking him violently! They seemed to be attempting some sort of boxing match but were both too inexperienced to know how to actually throw any punches, soon after, they gave up and continued to munch on the grass beneath their feet. Huddled on the porch, we sat eating cheese and biscuits and drinking more wine! The sun sank lower in the sky, the wind chilled our ears and noses as we pulled our blankets tighter around us; not wanting to go inside to warmer climates. We waited until darkness fell and the kangaroos became darkened shadows in the distance before heading in to once again, eat more food! A meal of chicken curry followed by a freshly baked, family favourite Lemon Meringue Pie...
