#TooManyFlowers

Melbourne, 23.02.2018

On Friday I decided to go to the city as I hadn’t really seen it yet, apart from the little bit of China Town. I caught the tram to the Victoria Gallery that houses lots of works of art. The first room was filled top to bottom with flowers, too many flowers. Each of us was given a flower by a security guard who was very worried about people taking more than their one designated flower and then we placed them in the room of flowers to add to the collection.

There was also a bunch of weird religious paintings and a statue of a creepy baby. The worst one was a sculpture of Jesus dead on Mary’s knee, which is already creepy but then he was also child sized and had a beard and the fact that he was out of proportion annoyed me. There was also a room full of giant skulls... I don't know why they were there but Paige would enjoy it given her "Obsession with skulls" that she told me about.

They showed a film of the refugees from Syria that had been filmed using a heat camera and that was really enchanting. The way it was put together was quite eerie but also incredibly moving as they showed the people going about their normal day in such horrible circumstances.
After I was done and had some time to read my book in the sun, I decided I would explore a bit. The buildings in Melbourne are a real mixture of old brick and modern. It's less shiny than Sydney and has more character in the architecture so I enjoyed roaming around and snapping pics! I also bought a Calippo ice lolly which was heaven in the heat! Although I do hate it when the cardboard goes soggy after awhile, and you spend most of your life pulling tiny pieces of card out of your mouth! #firstworldproblems!

In the evening I met up with Alex and Maddy who are my friend Becky’s cousin and girlfriend. We met in Fitzroy, which is a hippy area with loads of cool shops and cafés. They are also on a working holiday and have been staying in Melbourne since they arrived a few months ago. They were both really nice and funny. I told them about how I managed to get lost on the half hour walk to them, and it ended up taking an hour, so they kindly walked me to the tram station to avoid me being stranded on the streets!
