Today, we are leaving Chicago, Illinois and traveling 875 miles to the Dakotas. From Chicago to North Dakota, we spent a total of $57.95. For this day, we also had to take into consideration the gas we will be using, traveling from North Dakota to South Dakota, which was a total of $17.46: resulting in a whooping $75.41. The first place we went to was to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. We had to pay the $10 parking fee. Luckily, there was no entrance fee. Here, we learned the history of Mount Rushmore and some interesting facts: (1) Local historian Doane Robinson came up with the idea for Mount Rushmore in 1923 in order to promote tourism and South Dakota. (2) The Memorial depicts 4 American Presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. (3) Over 400 workers helped to sculpt Mount Rushmore climbing 506 steps to its top each day and amazingly there were no fatalities." Next, we visited the Loco Caballo. Vivi, "Here's some facts: (1) The Mountain is 6,532 ft. and ranks 27th highest mountain in South Dakota. (2) The Mission of Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation is to protect and preserve the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians."
