Today, we are leaving the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., and traveling 143 miles to Freedom, Philadelphia. The gas cost $2.66 per gallon, which cost us a total of $9.50. The first thing we did, was take a tour of America's first famous seamstress, Betsy Ross. The tour cost $6 per ticket, so in total it came out to $24. Here, we learned that: (1) Betsy and John Ross, her husband, opened their own upholstery business in a rented house, (2) After her husband died, she continued running the business and made extra profit by mending uniforms and making tents, blankets, cartridges, and flags for the Continental Army, (3) By the age of 30, she had became a widow for the second time. From here, we went to go see the Liberty Bell. Gaby, "Here are some interesting facts about the Liberty Bell: (1) It gained iconic importance when abolitionists in their efforts to put an end to slavery throughout America adopted it as a symbol, (2) The Bell was first used in this association as a frontispiece to an 1837 edition of Liberty, published by the New York Anti-Slavery Society, (3) To help heal the wounds of the war, the Liberty Bell would travel across the country." Carlos, "Now we know what Mr. Meadors meant by 'Ding, Ding Crack'."After we visited the Liberty Bell, we went to see the Rocky Statue and Rocky Steps. Vivi, "Fun facts: (1) The fictional Rocky Balboa of Sylvester Stallone's Rocky movies was immortalized in bronze in 1980, (2) Each year, tens of thousands of people, young and old, recreate the scene from the legendary movie and make the trek up the steps, (3) Making the trip up the steps is regarded as a symbol of perseverance and determination." Also, we learned about the Constitutional Convention. The leaders of each state from the union decided to gather together to make new laws. This was known as the Constitutional Convention 1784. The results included the Constitution. Later with the addition of the Bill of Rights.
After a long day in Philly, we went to our hotel and counted our daily expenses and remaining budget. We stayed at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel for $93. Today, we spent a total of $126.50, leaving us with a remaining budget of $2,243.01.
