My diary

Today, we are leaving Fort Sumter, S.C, and making our way to Lost Colony, N.C. We are traveling a total of 270 miles. Once we arrived at our destination, we had to fill up our tank, AGAIN. It cost us a total of $14.42. Today's task, is to discover the Lost Colony. Unfortunately, it's lost, so, we had difficulties finding it. Today, we decided to look for the hotel first, instead of going to our original destination. We chose a hotel that costs $62, it was called Quality Inn. So, we finally found Roanoke.
We first visited the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site (luckily, the entrance was free). Here, there was a Waterside Theater, which was a drama that was performed by the park workers. The drama basically explained the history of Roanoke in song form.
After that, we went to the Roanoke Island Festival Park. The entrance was $7 per person, so $21 in total. We learned that, in 1584, 23 years before the Jamestown settlement, British colonists arrived on the shores of Roanoke Island. So, went to the Roanoke Adventure Museum. We dressed up in costumes from the 16th Century. As we went through the museum, we read quotes from Thomas Hariot's journal. Here, we read about the Lost Colony. Some facts that we learned were: (1) "The colonization of the Roanoke Colony was originally organized by Sir Humphrey Gilbert, but he died when attempting to colonize St. John's Newfoundland, leaving his half-brother Sir Walter Raleigh to continue, (2) Sir Walter Raleigh never visited North America, but send expeditions led by other men in his place, (3) The purpose of establishing a colony on Roanoke Island was to create a foothold in the New World to be able to serve as a base to expand the British Empire."
After a long day, we were tired so we went to the hotel. We counted our expenses for the day and it came out to $97.40. In total, our budget stands at $2,644.89.
