Europe 2023

Weather 7-12 Rain but we did see the sun.

We decided on a quiet day following the trip to Augsburg. Let’s go to a museum so we will be inside and not have to walk very far said Mark.
Bernadette fell for it.

Breakfast was a happy experience. Clue is in the photos.

Ubahn and mighty No16 tram to the Bavarian National Museum.

“The Bayerisches Nationalmuseum is among the principal museums of Germany. The museum presents art from Late Antiquity up to Art Nouveau Period, and uniquely illustrates the cultural history of Europe from a Bavarian perspective. Founded in 1855 by Bavarian King Maximilian II. In 1900, the Nationalmuseum moved into its new home, a distinct building complex on Munich´s Prinzregentenstrasse.”

German drinkers start early in Munich and the three happy drinkers on the No16 were doing their best to uphold that tradition at 1030.
Funny how drinkers create a zone of “I’m not going to sit there” around them. Happy folk.

a bit rushed. You can’t adequately describe the collection.
So much to see.
The Electors and Kings of Bavaria were great collectors and patrons of the arts of all kinds. Statues, carving, armour and weapons, whole rooms transplanted.

The ivory rooms represent any number of elephants with carving that defies skill.

For an extra 2 euros we went to the “Crazy Christmas Exhibition. This wasn’t all that crazy but was worth the donation.

There is a 600 piece table setting for 30 that we have decided to do our best to emulate.
Being silver it may be a bit of a challenge.

Most of the basement is full of Nativity scenes and crèches. Thousands of figures in a hundred different scenes. Hard to describe.

Michaela joined us after her work was done and was able to drag Bern away for tea and cake. Wasn’t much of an argument if truth be known.
Back home for late lunch after a visit to the local two story supermarket.

Going for dinner at MS Utting on Bridge, Lagerhausstrasse. This is an 1950 lake ferry fromLake Amsee. Have linked the story.

Boat now sits on a disused railway line not far from where we are staying. Great experience.
