Weather 11-25.
Another great day with the weather remaining fantastic. Terrific weather for sightseeing.
Off to the Residence.
I’ll let the Bavarian Palaces Administration tell the story.
The Munich Residence served as the seat of government and residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings from 1508 to 1918. What began in 1385 as a castle in the north-eastern corner of the city (the Neuveste, or new citadel), was transformed by the rulers over the centuries into a magnificent palace, its buildings and gardens extending further and further into the town.
The extensive building is a monument in stone to the self-image of its patrons, the rulers from the House of Wittelsbach, who governed Bavaria first as dukes, from the 17th century onwards as electors and from 1806 to 1918 as kings.

The extensive building is a monument in stone to the self-image of its patrons, the rulers from the House of Wittelsbach, who governed Bavaria first as dukes, from the 17th century onwards as electors and from 1806 to 1918 as kings.
The function of the Residence as the
main residence and seat of government of the rulers, which it retained for centuries, is still reflected in its architecture and furnishings: from the 16th to the 19th century interiors of high artistic and material quality were created in Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicist and Historicist styles.
Now that that's all out of the way it is an amazing place, Enormous in size, two chapels (small churches, kilometres of corridors, thousands of paintings and what seems like tons of gold guilt.
After the Residence you can go through the Treasury (Schatzkammer ) which has hundreds of exhibits; crowns, crosses and cruets. It’s all a bit of blur by the end and you think you need to come back. We did as we’d been here before but it’s still overwhelming.
At different points you can take a long or short route. Anyone want to guess what way we went? After only 3.5 kms it was off home for a quick feet up before we met Sean, Michaela and their good friend Dane who has just arrived from Malta.
