Day 6 Munich

A Day in the Country.

Weather 8-22 .

I am happy to report that no pastries were consumed on Saturday although coffee was taken.

Michaela and Sean offered to take us to Tegensee about 50 kms from Munich and about 1 hour by train. The town is on a lake of the same name and sits in a valley of the Bavarian alps.

Ski runs reach down to the lake shore in a funny combination of sailing and skiing.
Beautiful place with views every way you looked.
This opinion must be shared by most of Munich because thay were all at the railway station going somewhere today. Looked like a mass migration. People everywhere.

Worth mentioning the Deutschland ticket.
Germany introduced a ticket for 49 euro a month that lets you travel on all transport any where in Germany. Trams, buses, trains including metro and regional. Only exclusion is high speed trains (ICE or Intercity Express).

People just use public transport with only 50% of people owning a car and an average household having 2 bikes.
It does help that the entire city seems as flat as a billiard table.

Excellent lunch at a lakeside restaurant followed by a visit to an ex Benedictine Monastery that's serves beer and and Bavarian Haute Cuisine (pork, pork knuckle, different port, a side of port and of cause pastry.

Other thing sampled was secondary smoke.
34% of Germans smoke vs 10% of Australians. You can smoke anything almost any where including in food areas. The public health message is a little underdone here. Made us quite nostalgic

Sampled the beer but not the rest. A great day and an early dinner of cheese and biscuits.
