Much better day today. Bern has her eyes open for more than thirty minutes at a time.
Off early for coffee and pastries ( I can see a trend emerging here) and a trip to the gardens.
The Hoftgarten was the private garden to the Residence and was started in 1691. The Residence was the palace of the Dukes, Electors and Kings of Bavaria and is the size of a small suburb.
In Renaissance style it was destroyed during the war and rebuilt after the war. Lovely place with a beutiful rotunda in the centre.

Much better day today. Bern has her eyes open for more than thirty minutes at a time.
Off early for coffee and pastries ( I can see a trend emerging here) and a trip to the gardens.

While there we were approached by a lady asking for directions. Of course we and Goggle maps could help. She needed to go to the consulate too have her passport validated so she could go and visit her son in MANLY. She was Danish but of course could speak Danish, German and Englsh. But we had the technology and she was on her way. What a world.
Just next to the Hofgarten is the English Garden, one of the most famous places in Munich and largest urban spaces in the world. This huge garden was created in 1789 and has been extended and changed ever since.
Area: 3.73 km
Total length of paths and walkways: roughly 75 km (26 km roads, 36 km footpaths, 13 km bridlepaths)
Length of streams: 15 km
Bridges: over 100
Number of bird species that breed in the Garden: 50–60 (Wikipedia)
It also has the unusual distinction of having urban surfers. Wet suited and very polite surfers line up for a one minute ride on a standing wave thats created in one of the artificial streams. We can see opportunities here for the canal at the back.
After walking, walking, walking we found the beer garden where we rounded of the walk with curry wurst, chips and beer. Very interesting well organised place where they take a deposit on the steins and the returns counter is near the toilets to capture as many.
After 5 kms of walking we headed to Michaela and Sean’s to see what progress the craftsmen were making installing the kitchen. Not quite there yet. No unboxings tonight. The Arabic/German speaki in ng tradies and the English speaking renter have done surprising well communicating important things like where’s the coffee and does this go there.
We all shared a pizza and wine and the elderly were off to bed on the mighty U6
