Europe 2023

Weather 5-8

Great night’s sleep. Huge bed , cool room.
Not what one could characterise as an early start. Coffe at hotel as it was about 5 outside at 1000. Yes, we admit there was pastry involved.
Discovered there was a close Ubahn station through an enmormous shopping centre. That fixed unfinished present buying.

U4 to Römerstraße, the square in the Old Town. During the bombing in WWII AAll of Frankfurt’s 2,000 or so timber framed buildings were destroyed except one. A number have been reconstructed but this is a very modern place compared to their German towns we have visited.
The square area has the Rathaus, the Cathedral, a handful of churches and museums and a very large number of tour groups.

Frankfurt has to be the home of German skyscrapers. No plain rectangular boxes here. They twist, turn, have garden sides and are absolutely enormous.

Back to the hotel to pickup our bags and a final rest in the warm.
There is a Redbull Dance Competition ( yes capitals are important) on in Frankfurt which explains the high cool coefficient.
It’s just as funny watching middle aged German men try to be super trendy with young people as it is middle aged Australians.

Of to the airport by the mighty S9 and fortunately we had tickets as the inspectors swooped. Expect tourists on the way to airport is a lucrative income stream.

All checked in a sitting waiting for leg one to take us home.
Leave for Muscat at 2020 arrive 0645 next date!
Love time zones.

Some buildings for those who like that sort of thing.
