We booked on to do a half day tour on a long boat, it went to similar places that I had done on the pirate boat but was 1/4 of the price!
Our first stop was Monkey Beach. This time I didn’t have one jump on me but I got some cute photos of a mother monkey with her newborn baby. I also rescued a tiny monkey from a plastic straw and told him it’s not food. He just snatched it off me and carried on chewing it! You can’t help monkeys if they’re not willing to help themselves!
The rest of the trip was mainly snorkeling and sight seeing from the boat. We decided to sit at the front and got absolutely drenched from the waves crashing, we also didn’t have our sunscreen with us and could picture ourselves leaving the boat completely frazzled with red burning eyes.
When we stopped to snorkel, I popped on my goggles and tried not to think about when the last time the mouthpiece was washed. The water was mostly clear and I saw some interesting fish, still no sharks, sigh! But at the last snorkel stop the coral was full of colour and fish, plus when you pulled your head out the water you’d see monkeys watching you from the rocks.
They took us out to see the sunset but it was a bit cloudy and half the people in the boat couldn’t actually see the sky so they cut it short and dropped us back off to shore.

The following day we had a new roomy called ED who was 21 and has already been to over 30 countries! This kid travels! He told us about when he went to Madagascar to teach English and ended up being ship wrecked. Luckily, everyone was fine and not too far from land which meant they could swim to shore but some had broken bones and cuts from the sea corals which meant they had to be helped to safety. I told him of my much more traumatic near death experience with the coconut and I think he knew deep down that I had won the ‘who nearly died better’ game! Technically, he didn’t nearly die, just went for a really long swim.
The next evening, we went out for food and movies again, and then Ed joined us down at the beach where we watched the limbo and skipping. One Thai man had a girl over his legs holding her like a baby and limboed under the pole which was standing less than 60cm high. It was fun to watch people for a while, again the Thai man showed off how he could do press ups while skipping and skip by jumping off his bum like a fish.
The morning of my last day in Phi Phi arrived too soon again! I really loved this place. James and I headed out for a good traditional meal of eggs and bacon and then hit the beach. It was far too hot and I didn’t know if it was flies or sweat beads landing on me making my skin tickle. When I couldn’t bear it anymore we left to get lunch.
It was sad to say our goodbyes at the boat, it had been fun spending time together in Thailand and I will very much miss James and the funny stories he provides for my diaries! Hopefully with the likes of Facebook and WhatsApp it will be easy to stay in touch and catch up in the future.
