Auckland, 29.01.2018

Monday morning was a bit flat as I made my way to the airport. I was missing having company but was looking forward to going to Auckland!
I arrived midday and found my bus easily. On the way into the city I asked the girl next to me if she knew at all where I would need to get off, she didn’t as she had just arrived from England and we began chatting about home.
Her name was Milly and she had come from Brighton for a month’s holiday. We decided to meet up once we had settled into our hostels so we went for dinner to get Mexican food because I loves me a taco!

In the evening we popped into the hostel bar that housed Auckland’s crazies. A middle aged woman with bold lipstick, dressed as a pensioner, complete with large handbag was all about throwing shapes on the dance floor! When a song came on that she didn’t like, she would flip off the speaker in protest. We had a dance ourselves and stayed to listen to some of the karaoke until about midnight and then went our separate ways but agreed to meet to climb mount Eden the next morning.

I woke up feeling regretful that I had committed to physical activities but I put my trainers on and started the long journey to Milly’s hostel. The walk to Mount Eden was steep but went quickly as we chatted away. The view at the top was interesting as we could see the strange clash of buildings in Auckland from very modern to small and old.

On the way home we stopped for some frozen yoghurt and found a cute park in the city to chill in. Exhausted from the walk I ended up falling asleep about 3 times between chatting and reading my book. Our stomachs rumbling, we got some stuff for a picnic. The time passed quickly as we lay on our sun loungers nibbling on crackers and hummus.

By the time I got back to my hostel most people were in bed or chatting in the kitchen. The busyness of the week had caught up with me so I climbed into my bed and drifted off to sleep.
