Today was our only full day in Verona so we made the most of it. I had some 'Jen' time in the morning while Smith was napping and strolled around the city for a little to get some breakfast pastries and coffee for Tyler.
The city is bigger than expected. It's best known as being the 'home' of the infamous (and fictional) Juliet balcony in the Shakespeare classic. It had a population of about 714,274 and is home to some of Italy's best wine - Valpolicella and Amarone. As is the case throughout Italy, there's a lot of history. It seems like everywhere you look there are significant old buildings.
We all ventured out later in the morning for some shopping time. There was great window shopping with beautiful antiwue furniture and jewellery then Tyler found a nice men's store where he got some goodies. Then it was my turn! Smith was a star the whole time and napoed while we were out and about. He woke up just in time for a delicious pizza lunch (he ate veggies, poor guy) then we went wine shopping in such a beautiful store. It felt like we were in the library in Beauty and the Beast, but instead of books there was wine!
We regrouped at the apartment afterwards before heading out for dinner. Dinner tonight was at an old restaurant that almost felt like an institution. We did the chef's seven-course tasting menu accompanied by an amazing bottle of wine. It wasn't quite as magical as our meal the night before, but it was a wonderful culinary experience. And Smith lasted throughout the entire meal!
We headed back to get him to bed, but I wanted to explore one more thing. They have live music every night in ruins just beside us which also offer a beautiful view of the city. I ran out for a quick peak and it was totally worth it. What a way to end our time in Verona!
