Tour de Smith

Today was another travel day, but more importantly, it was a new day. Smith had a better sleep last night and we're feeling more energized and ready to explore a new city and country. I'm sad to leave France and its delicious pastries and familiar language, but I also couldn't wait to get to Italy.

We had a five-hour drive to get to Verona which is the longest drive Smith has done. All in all he did alright. We had a few stops along the way, but I don't mind truck stops here; they're nothing like at home. You get great food and fun little stores. You can even buy chilled beer and wine, which seems a bit odd for a roadside destination but whatever works.

We finally pulled into Verona around 5:30 and got to our Airbnb where we had parking right in front of the building and an ELEVATOR!!! This was more of a bonus for Tyler because he's the one doing all the heavy lifting, but it took a fraction of the time to get everything into the apartment. We were still all pouring sweat though because it's 35 degrees and the apartment is on the fourth floor. Thankfully there's air conditioning, but it's still scorching.

Our Airbnb is located in a really nice area just outside of the city centre and away from the tourist zone. There's a great ready-made meal place just down the street so I popped in there to grab some eggs, bread, milk, and even some cooked carrots for Smith then it was dinner time. Tyler did some research and found good reviews for a restaurant called Osteria la Fontanina that we decided to go to. We had some time to kill before dinner so we walked over the bridge to explore a bit and found some awesome shops that we'll want to return to.

We headed back to the restaurant for dinner and it was one of the best meals we've ever had. The restaurant is run by I think a mother-daughter team and they were so lovely. They sat us down on a beautiful patio and the vibe was super casual. And then there was the food...we had a delicious wine and some of the best ravioli we've ever had. The ladies couldn't get enough of Smith, especially the younger one. And at the end of the meal, she said "Smith, I love you. Come back in 15 years. Maybe 20." It was one of those magical meals where every piece comes together.

So far we can't get enough of Verona!
