Today is our day off, the proverbial Rick Steves "vacation in the vacation", so we could get up early and have a leisurely breakfast; no packing and loading the bus today. We sat with a British couple our age, spending 7-10 days here. They told us the town is developing nicely as a vacation draw for the Brits. It was sunny and warm when we had breakfast on the hotel terrace, then it clouded up for awhile and there was a spit of rain. Soon the sun returned and with it some serious heat and humidity; summer had returned, at least for a day!
We did a walking "tour" of the tiny walled area that was old Kardamili with it's watch tower and defensive walls. We walked through most of the streets of this tiny town of 200 year round residents. Went down to the rocky beach where some Brits and Germans were swimming off a concrete platform. Took photos of the little harbor.
Before dinner, we gathered and went to a local shop to have an olive and olive oil tasting. Yanni, the proprietor, raises organic olives, wild ones when he can find the trees. He has the olives pressed for extra virgin oil and also makes olives to eat and many products that use olive oil. We moved on from there for a nice dinner at Harilaos, on the shore. There was a wedding going on next door at the Tikla Cafe ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding" any one??)
